    Dismantling light/ignition switch

    Hello from Brisbane.

    Throwing this one to the experts.

    An American colleague is trying to remove the light switch knob from the body of the combined ignition-light switch in his Series 1 - without success. He did get the ignition key barrel out etc but just can’t get the knob off.

    What’s the procedure?

    Hi Neil.
    It untwists. You can see the lug one of 3 on the assembled switch Pic.
    Mine was very tight and took time twisting forward and back the Bakelite bottom and brass top.
    Also the 2 Alloy Barrel lug break easy. Second part down in third image. Apply heat from heat gun before straightening or bending no more than needed.
    I have face stickers from UK if he needs one.

    You are right, the nut on the end does unscrew. On my 80" the nut was soldered to keep it from unscrewing. I guess that solder was the Lucas version of Loctite in 1953.
    As you say, a bit of gentle heat, gently unbend the locking tongues and it all happens! The stickers are a great fix fior a faded dial.

    Hello again.

    The switch that I was inquiring about is the one that was fitted to the 86"/107" and later trucks that had the combination switch.

    The switch in the photos in the earlier posts appears to be the one fitted in the earlier 80" trucks. I suspect they are a bit different.
