    Oil Port

Firstly, my apologies for so many questions. I hugely appreciate the help.

I believe from reading this forum, that the hole in the block just ahead of the starter, is an access point for an Oil Pressure Gauge. I also understand that the Oil Pump can be primed ahead of a start by filling the pump with Oil through this port as well.

Is this the case? Again I find the Workshop Manual and the Parts Manual completely silent on this.
I have my Oil pressure Switch in the usual place and as per the Green Bible.

Can anyone tell me what the thread is for this, as the Oil pressure sender I have is too small so an adaptor is clearly required.

I will appreciate any guidance at all.

    Regards and thanks

I am not certain, but I think that hole does go into the main oil gallery, and hence is a suitable point for a pressure gauge.

The thread id probably BSF. Maybe someone more knowlegeable than I am on Series 1 engines could comment. I would use a tee under the pressure switch rather than use a separate port.

What is normally used to close this port?

    Gentlemen,
Can anyone tell me, or show me what is usually used to close this port off.
I am assuming it has to be OIL tight, so needs a special plug/bolt/ that is not shown in the WorkShop port Parts manual.

    many thanks

This looks like it could be an early 2L motor as it has the centre out let on the manifold. Dose it have an oil filter on the drivers side of the engine Full flow top photo , if not it should have by pass filter filter bottom of photo. @l filters.jpg along with pipes & fittings .Portion of the oil Oil is pumped out the hole ( which has a restrictor)through the filter & back into the sump. The full flow type the oil comes through a port on the D/S of block through the filter then is fed to all parts of the motor.
That is what I think , others may have other ideas In saying that the 1695 engine the oil filter port is closer to the front of the engine as in my motor
IMAG0999.jpg Is there a hole just below the starter & just above the flange for the fitting for the oil return pipe. I can not find any photo's in W/S Manuals Parts books or a 2L restoration book I have that shows the hole in the position of yours & none show that raised round casting like yours. ?????

That tapped hole appears to be blind and unused on the three spread bore engines I've checked.

These engines were also used in the Rover P4 / 60 , may have something to do with them & Rover just cast one block for the LR & car. My Rover 60 W/S manual dose not show any photo'd of that part of the block.
