Thread: Brake Master Cylinder Help

For those comparing the master cylinder with Alex's online: the one I received simply bolted into position, all the pipes located and fitted and the system "bled" straight up!

Rick,

It would be interesting to see pictures as the guy in India may have sorted out the pipe connections. I tried through my contact to explain the problem and didn't really get anywhere. Biggest problem was that I was only buying one for a test, the intention was then to bring in ten at a time.

Did your pipes fit straight to the master cylinder without adaptors ?
Could you send a picture of it fitted showing where the pipes fit ?

Maybe I'll dig out the contact details and try again.

A little surprise was waiting for me when I lifted the cover Chassis cover hadn't been off for best part of long time. That will have been brake fluid spillage. Ummm duh! Oh well 'nother clean up job. About time anyway. Running Engine and gearbox to back in in next week or so. FINALLY!

Thanks Rick,
The picture explains everything.
On both ports there are fittings for the brake pipes to terminate in.
On my 86" the brake pipes terminate in the master cylinder so the threads don't go straight through.

It would seem that the two master cylinders I have suit the earlier vehicles but with adapters, and a modification to pipe lengths, will fit the later model.

Maybe I should get back onto the Indian supplier.....

Got mine sorted (I believe) and will refit today and see what happens.
My original had corroded around the clip that secures the rod, meaning it was not firmly held, which is a huge safety issues.
So purchased another Master cylinder only to find that the outlet port was a different size to the original.
So I took both cylinders down to Perth Brake Parts and they drilled and Helicoiled a new correct thread so I could reuse all my S1 80"fittings. They then double checked everything, replaced the spring that they thought was too weak, all overnight and for only $50.
So it was a cheap alternative to buying a super expensive 80" Master Cylinder.

Any advice on how to get the big end cap off? I am rebuilding my 3-hole master cylinder and worried I will crack the master cylinder housing if I use too much force!

Try a little heat - on the body, not the end cap.

Good suggestion. I was actually thinking yesterday "when I tried heating it last weekend I was heating the cap not the body".

I'll try expanding the right bit and see if that works.
