    Capstan winch bits ???

    Hello all

Did obtain a capstan winch supposedly with all the bits. Ummmmm?

Discovered winch is a critical path item and needs to fitted before radiator et al. So it had to be "on with it!'

Progressed to the part where one needs to destroy the innards of the harmonic balancer, i.e rip out all the rubber and install the winch drive bits.

Mmmm, seems I have a problem, the original drive flange between the rubber donuts/plates (which were no longer rubber) is P/n 09017 in my 80". In the Winch parts it is 218653 and now I have no drive to the pulley part of the harmonic balancer. Is this just an 80" problem with drive flange for fan pulley, or do I need to find a 218653?? Alternatively what might I need to do to the P/n 09017. I have lathe and mill.

OR does anyone have a 218653?

    Cheers

Unfortunately, looks like russelrovers doesn't have the part anymore.

    Anyone else? OR

Dimensions for machining the existing parts of the balancer to suit? I have lathe and mill.

I currently have own ideas on how to perhaps go about it. Any photos or detail drawing/s of the installation in the balancer and of a P/N 218653 would be helpful.

    Cheers

Just a couple of questions before we go any further.
Is the clutch arrangement as shown at the right hand side top ?
Is this the damper (minus starting dog) you are looking for ?

That photo would appear to be the one. Thanks for that.

It is quite different to the PN 09017 off my 80" 2ltr. Even the rubber donuts retaining plate is a smaller dia. and the 6 screws on a different PD. I also note that parts drawing has an additional figure (I would guess) for differing Harmonic balancer configurations???

In the big scheme of things I could manufacture parts and alter the 09017 out of my head to do the job, but one on loan as a pattern or a purchased item would be better incl centre bolt and tab washer. Even a full size photo and the the length of the keyed shaft, would be better than nothing if the item itself is not for sale or loan.

    Cheers

You didn't answer my first question.
I guess it's different because the driving flange 09017 needs to be replaced with 218653.

BSF, apologies, but thought I did. I hadn't read the question properly

Answer is it is not the same as the parts diag upper right. My dog clutch is items 76 and 77. it would appear that I might also need items 89 to 93 ?????? .................and perhaps the whole harmonic balancer

    Cheers

I wasn't sure which picture you were referring to. Unfortunately the bottom drawing with item 76 and 77 is the arrangement used on Series 2's with 2-1/4L engines.
A completely different set up. Sorry.
