Thread: Solid Rivets - can they be installed noiselessly or close to it?

I'm making good progress on my 1953 Series 1 80", but my big remaining worry is installing the solid rivets. I have a pneumatic hammer that runs off my feeble compressor, but it’s the noise that has me worried. I live in a quiet suburban street in Nedlands, and I think my neighbours would be none too happy to have me running the compressor and air hammer for hours on end.


Does anyone have a solid rivet compressing tool I could rent, buy or copy? Any other suggestions on stalling the solid rivets that does not involve a lot of noise?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. \

I receiver the drawing from another LR member & made my own from the drawing.
A few people here in Qld have borrowed it from me & said how easy it was to use. There is a guy in Port Macquarie who has mine at the moment. so was worth the effort to be able to help others as well. The threads stated don't need to be the same can be metric depends on what taps you have. I cut it out with 4" grinder & cutting disc & hacksaw.
