Removing a distributor housing and oil pump

    Hi All,

Stripping down a '57 2 lt from a 107. The Land Rover manual blithely states remove the distributor housing and oil pump. Mine seems to be locked in solid. I've tried heat and WD40, WD40 soaking, Heat and WD40 gentle hitting with a hide and copper mallet. Oh and even a set of Stilsons. Nothing seems to assist. Any ideas ?

    Many thanks Eric

Have you removed bolt No 32 that is located under the side plate. They can get quite stuck in the block being alloy, they are eastly broken so don't go hitting it too hard. You could try spraying it with Freeze Off to shrink it in the block.housing1.jpg

By the silence it sounds like it may be too late?

Yep, that is great stuff when I had a similar problem with some Brake nuts & nothing would shift them Enter Freeze Off, job done.

Thanks Guys, The bolt 32 is out the oil housing slowly came loose with persuasion then broke just about half an inch from the end! However I have another engine to try to remove the part from. Still have to get the Distributor housing out freeze off may be a good option as it just isn't budging. It looks as though this engine may have had an oil feed problem and possibly overheated causing the sticking. Oil was really thick black and smelly. Sludge through the cam shaft ports and I had to pry the inlet rocker off dry posts. All in all, a day wasted (but not really).

Thank you both for your thoughts. I was working the oil pump housing off (read breaking)hence the lack of reply.

Open to any other thoughts though, tomorrow is another day!
