This is a bit different to all the others I have. What is that lever?
The gearbox that came with my 80” is no. 06110211, which is 49-50 correct. However, I have another that was in an 86” and that has no. 0609998. Now my understanding is that the numbers started at 06100000, so how can my gearbox predate that first 49-50 by 2 numbers?..

A bit hard to tell from the picture, but it's one of these two.

I’m guessing it must be a ring pull box then. Unlike any I’ve seen before. I guess I’ll have to find a matching floor plate then.

061..... were 1950, earlier ones 86....

Ok, that first number actually is 761…., so 1957 box.
The other box is a stick transfer box that was the step between the ring pull and the usual S1 transfer lever arrangement. They simply changed the ring to a lever by changing the lever assembly at the front of the box.

Worth pointing out that the "ring pull" box is full time four wheel drive, with a free wheel device on the front output shaft. The ring pull locks the free wheel so you have four wheel drive in reverse.
For a short period before the introduction of selectable four wheel drive the ring pull was replaced by the familiar yellow knob to lock the free wheel.

Thanks John, I found the yellow knob stick (operating rod for lever) last night.
