My thoughts are that it is a basic 88 that has had a SW hardtop and SW front doors added.
It would nice if I was wrong though.
Whoever buys it needs to be 100% sure of what exactly they are buying.

I would tend to agree on that idea
Bids now up to $2000 so I guess the bidders do not know what they are buying - the ad also indicates it has a 2.25 engine as well.

There are certainly many points which make this wagon hard to clarify as the real thing.
Obviously the roof looks genuine as does the rear tailgate upper and lower. The galvanised brackets on the rear of the tub for mounting the door also appear correct. However,
On a close up of the rear of the tub where half of the badge is visable there are no holes below for the wagon badge.
As noted before it has spare mount in tub, the bracket for this and the tabs for the tailgate locking pins were still included on wagons so perhaps the chains and spare holder itself are later additions.
The side facing rear seats are incorrect and in the close up the holes for the bracket which holds the two seats are not there.
The interior of the tub looks like the original green.
All of these suggest the tub is not station wagon.
Furthermore, many of the other interior panels such as the seatbox, transmission tunnel, bulkhead and passenger side door top appear to all be in their original bronze green.
The blue door cards and blue seats would perhaps suggest wagon rather than ute as grey was much more common on the utes deluxe trim in my understaning.
The drivers side door top (grey) is of the later type with the thin channel underneath the window whilst the passenger side is of the thicker, earlier type. Perhaps this door could be classed as being from the wagon as it's trim seems to cover both door top and bottom unlike passenger side.
Just my thoughts, hope i havent offended anyone with my ramblings, certainly an interesting vehicle, would be great to view in person or to see more pics as these are only guesses.
Cheers.
Your thoughts line up with most others who have commented.
However the rear of my SW does not have the rear SW plaque OR THE HOLES for it. The more I am researching swb station wagons the more I am coming to the opinion that ours were a little different to the UK versions. Eg I have a white hardtop not a body coloured one, the lack or the rear station wagon badge, twin wipers as standard - optional in the UK, optional heaters in Aust - mine has never had a heater in it.
Why oh why didn't landrover keep track of chassis numbers that were being allocated as station wagons - would be a lot easier to verify vehicles
