Hi people
Many of you may not know that pre-production 80" Land Rover number L48 now lives in Perth.
This is possibly the first pre-production in Australia, but definately the only known pre-pro and so the oldest Land Rover in Australia.
The owner is considering sending it to Cooma, however it is a long way and the owner is just getting over emigrating (with his vehicles) from the U.K., so is somewhat cost conscious.
How important would be having L48 at the Cooma LR 60th and can anyone suggest/arrange ecconomical return transport for this so very unique vehicle?
Regards
Diana

I am thinking of that - but wouldn't it be great if Land Rover Australia, suggested to whomever does their transport that they should do it for advertising purposes.
You know something like "TNT Logistics, delivering Land Rover for 60 years"
TNT must have delivered a Land Rover somewhere in 1948/49 and they could have it on the advertising tarps on the sides of their trailers. Great image, L48 and a Range Rover Sport on the same sign.

tnt stands for thomas nationwide transport, an ealier version was thomas national transport and i think brambles was also part of the group at one stage.they wern't around that long ago, as a young fella i used to call them 'tommys naughty trucks' late 50' 60's
however if you go to tnt and follow their history back, they may be able to claim the title you are after by their mergers with , or buy outs of other companies.
i think they bought out 'hartridge transport'
good luck with the challenge to find a sponser.

Thanks for your thoughts - my use of the TNT Logistics was only an example and in fact TNT Logistics no longer exists as a car transporting organisation. The successor is the independant company CEVA Logistics and am assuming we will soon start seeing their vehicles in the new fleet livery. (CEVA Logistics claims 40 years of logistics experience.)
All that aside, whom ever takes up the idea and whatever the text be, it it could be a marketing exercise for both Land Rover Australia and the logistics company.
Have fed the idea to the LR60 committee with an aim of starting the support at that end.
Lets see how that goes for the moment.

If it runs, it could carry the Land Rover flame (if that is still going ahead) across
I understand that L48 is completely restored.
It was found in Argentina a couple or three years ago, Marco heard about it and while others were trying to contact and acquire it, he jumped on a plane went to the owner and bought it. It was returned to the UK where the restoration was undertaken and there was access to other pre-pros to ensure authenticity. They even had Serek the original radiator manufacturer make a batch of radiators on the original patterns I am led to believe.
There were a lot of people wanting to see L48 in the U.K before it was exported to Oz, so if we can get it to Cooma it will be somewhat of a scoop.
Watch this space - it will be quite a bit of negotiation for Marco to be happy to let it come over and more to get the sponsorship.

Hi there Diana
You already know my views.
I find it difficult to digest that Land Rover Australia wouldnt be busting its burbler to get the original/oldest Land Rover for the Cooma display.
The advertising would be a great promotional sales pitch - picture the oldest S1 is Australia sitting next to a brand new rig..........
