Thread: Steering Dampers

I remember in my first series 1 which got plenty of offroad use, I did nearly loose a couple of thumbs when off road so may have been helpful. I have a front axle sitting in my driveway that has a steering damper on it so the previous owner did think them of some value.

Steering dampers were not, I believe, standard on any Series Landrovers, although they became effectively standard on Series 3.

Series 1 and 2 and early 2a did not have the brackets on the chassis and drag link to fit them, but there was a kit made to fit them that includes a clamp on the drag link tube and a bracket bolted to the chassis. I probably have most of the bits floating round here somewhere.

The current 2a I have was the first Series I have owned with a steering damper, and as far as I can tell it makes little if any difference provided the swivel preload is correct, except perhaps in extreme offroading, and perhaps results in a slight loss of feel.
