		hi there,
 fuel and highways in France are expensive, to cross the Channel too and to rent a trailer is not cheap ; moreover I live in Southern France, close to the Spanish border ... it means I have at least to drive 1200 x 2 kms for a trip in UK and 1500 x2 kms for one in Germany !!! Such a trip will cost at the end around 800 euros (i.e. 1300 AUD).

 best

		Hi People

 Once again I have to say "Geez I hate dial up" NYE resolution - get broadband at the folks place. I tried this post yesterday but it failed on send.

 The economics of exporting a LR from Australia may not be as bad as one thinks. A friend recently sold 2 1960's VW combis (the split screen type) on ebay and both were bought by a buyer in the UK. The buyer contacted a freight forwarding agent and the vehicles were picked up, containerised and shipped. Customs for the EU are no where near as stringent as Australia, because they have land bridges from the African and Aisian continents. Why protect from something that can walk or fly here anyway. And the last and most important issue is that most LR in UK have chassis rot, a new chassis from Richards or Marshland cost about 1,700.00 GBP which will go a long way to to off-set the cost of shipping from Oz.

 Talk to Tim Pickford from Whirlwind Spares in the UK he knows the pitfalls of shipping LR parts from Oz to UK and will have some ideas for you.

 I would think that you would be able to have a container landed in Marseilles en-route from Oz via Suez. There are a lot of empty containers leaving Oz and a lot of EU manufactured items waiting for those empty containers in France and elsewhere.

 Take a holiday and find a decent vehicle while you are here, I posted an ad recently for a 109 available in Newcastle NSW , it may still be available. The big problem is that all Oz LR will be RHD and you may have to convert to LHD for France.

 Cheers
 Diana

 ADDIT: Just remembered, I recently got a estimate for shipping a S2B from Sydney to UK, the estimated cost was $6,500.00.

		107
		Hi Everyone,
 thanks for interesting replies ; it's true that freight from Australia to France (or adjacent countries) is a little bit more expensive than to buy one lovely 107 around here but :
 - cheap 107 in western Europe usually need to be rebuilt totally (as you said more rainy days here than in Australia and frame and bulkhead are often deeply rot) ;
 - it's not a big problem to drive a RHD car in France ; it's just funny on small roads and in town !!!
 - it seems there are a lot of original 107 around you.

 thanks also for the 2 links.
 keep in touch
