    Carbi Kit

    Can anyone recommend an Australian supplier for a carbi kit for my S1 86inch?
    Fuel seems to be leaking out from just about everywhere so I think I'll have a crack at a clean-up and replace gaskets etc.
    Any tips and hints as I've not had a lot of luck with carbies in the past? (I love my Diesel! :P)

    It is a long time since I've looked at one of these, but I think in your place I would look for a carburetter specialist - should be one somewhere in Sydney. It is very likely that as well as needing an overhaul kit it needs the throttle shaft rebushing, and may have damaged threads in the castings, and it is very likely that these are beyond your abilities.

    hi Disco

    I went down this road . I rang a few British carby specialists in Melbourne . I bought a kit, " Fuel Miser " brand, from one of the places I rang . The kit was total crap , with diaphrams that didn't fit , it is a 'generic' kit intended to cover a whole range of vehicles with Solex 32 variations .

    I searched the web and came across Gower and Lee , a UK company . I bought a Series 1 kit from them , 'Zenith' brand . The Zenith kit is far more comprehensive with a new throttle butterfly and shaft included , but no jets . At least the diaphrams fit OK.

    I have seen a series 1 carby kit on Ebay recently that included new jets ... the 'Land Rover orphanage' was selling it . Not cheap though .

    A guy in Sth America was selling the kits too . But he's dissapeared off the scene .

    The series 1 carbies are relatively easy to strip down and assemble . Don't try to remove the curved acc. pump tube that squirts petrol into the throat, it's better to leave it there and blow it out with air .

    The Guy in Brazil was Ricardo Tores de Martin. His ebay name is Ricardotdm

    He was selling them at $US15.00 + postage.

    They don't have the, jets, butterfly or spindle and the replacement float is plastic rather than brass, but they seem O.K.

    Thanks very much to all for the contact info and tips and also to Diana for the offer of a loan carbi.
    I removed mine and sprayed it out with carbi cleaner and the outside with degreaser, tightened a few loose screws and re-fitted it and it doesn't seem to leak nearly as badly now. The front of it used to be wet all the time but since the Australia Day show it's looking fine. I suspect it wasn't bolted to the manifold very tightly as that inner bolt is not easy to get at and seemed little more than finger tight when I undid it.
    Strangely since cleaning the carbi Madeline doesn't start as willingly as she used to - was just a touch of the button, now a couple of seconds cranking to start. Runs fine though. Maybe I didn't put the choke cable back in the right spot?
