Streak Update

For some unknown reason the centre section has been chopped out of mine and looks like it was done with an axe, I had a nice 53 lined up which was to donate some parts to the Streak but I kind of lost out on it, my 51 doesnt have one either, I will sort something, The Streak has the first type of joint you mentioned John, you can bet it will some other make of vehicle, I know a guy with a huge range of old joints he will have em.

The very front X member visible behind the front bumper has the big hole in it, mine has a few smallers holes spaced in a line, look to be tube end that have been welded into the x member, do they play any part in the over all scheme?

And all this started with degreasing the motor hey. :o She's gonna be great when you get thru it though. ;) I have cut a couple of corners with mine - but I aint telling anyone where.... not really - have been very lucky with what the bloke before me did as he has saved me heaps of time :)

You can cut corners in some ways, for example who is going to get under and crawl from one end to the other? basically I just paint what you can see visibly, long as that looks neat you are forgiven for some other sins, I am not going to seperate my running gear just for the sake of it, as things break over or wear out with driving I will change them, I think as long as the outside looks clean, the inside is neat and tidy and under the bonnet they look clean you are ok, total thorough every nut and bolt restos really soak up the hours, Shes coming along Troy, albeit very slowly but thats the way it is.

Not sure what you are referring to as the "centre section".

The holes in the front cross member are probably for mounting a capstan winch. They should be "rivnuts" rather than welded in tubes.

I the front member with a wire brush and cleaned up around the holes, they are probably as you state John, they dont look to be added later, going to sink some hours into it today I will photograph the member and add to the pics on the first page.

They do soak up time regardless of how you do it, dont they? Speaking of painting - mine is still wet from yeterday.

I just sank 4 hours into it today, what did I get done? when the Grey went in some sort of bash plate was fitted between the engine and right side chassis rail, one bolt would not come out no matter how you came at it or what with, I got the sh1ts and grab a 2 meter length of gal pipe with a mighty hoy the plate folded and dropped, yippee been bugging me for weeks, its now in the trailer and allowed me to continue my cleaning exploits around the side walls under the bonnet,

Looking at the pedals and how they are assembled, I think I can use the bushes out of an early Ford pedal box to repair them,

By centre section John I mean the middle of the bumper between the chassis rails is gone

Hmm! I wonder if someone has removed a capstan winch and solved the problem of seized bolts on the bumper, or simply the number of them (including the fairlead) by removing the centre section with an angle grinder.

Sounds like you need a new bumper.
