    Oil Filter?

Hello all, Silly Question 3. i ordered a oil filter for the green money trap and got sent a replacement element (a paper refill) for one, the old one is a canister type RYCO ZS1? (its pretty banged up), so where can i get the canister to hold a replacement element, was this the original type of oil filter, cheers. Anthony.

Hope this works, never attached a picture before, the battered rusted on on the left is the one i took off the engine before dropping it off to get worked on, it is a sealed unit it is definitely a RYCO, i cant make out the product number properly but it looks like it says ZS1 (i could be mistaken)

The one on the right is the paper element i got sent to me, i presume it needs a housing to hold it, i would much rather go down this route as there is a sealed unit type one for sale on ebay.uk for 26 pound stirling without postage, if thats the rate for a sealed one i think i will use a coffee filter. Cheers. Anthony.

That looks like an old bypass oil filter.

The new filter you've been supplied with is the correct replacement for the original. You are right, it has a housing which it fits into (similar to the S2 as well). Don't know where you'll source one, as I'm sure you cant get one new.

There is an adaptor available to fit the later type Ryco as per Ron's picture.

    G'day Vin,
Check out the Series 1 Club site for spin on filters and housing - you have to join the Club though

Have a look at the included picture. I guess that you have been sent item #24 "Element, AC FF 24 Rover#246262" and you want item #1 "Oil filter complete, AC 1530021 Z.S. 1 Rover#216322". Item #1 is listed as up to 1954, and item #24 is listed as 1955-1958. #1 is a bypass filter for the early engines, while #24 is a full-flow insert for the later engines. My 1949 has been converted to take the same filter as the WWII Jeep, (still bypass) which takes a replaceable insert R4P. I have been told that this was a conversion done by the Adelaide dealer. Picture also included.

The filter on your car Aaron, looks like the one my Bedford truck used to have.
A sensible modification in an easy to get at place - I like it!

As others have said, the filter you are looking for is the ZS-1 which I believe is actually an AC part number, they were bypass filters and used on lots of industrial applications as well as on cars. They are made of unobtainium with most of the NOS in Australia having dried up, so checking with the people like Charlie suggested the UK Series One Club (LRSOC) is a good start.

The filter you have been supplied with suits the 1955 - 1958 spread bore 2 litres and also the Land Rover 6 cyl engines up until the end of series 3.

There are a number of people who make adapters to use spin on filters in place of the ZS-1 - the LRSOC does one for 65.00 GBP I think, also Ian Turner is South Aus has a friend who modifies your ZS-1 housing to accept a spin on filter inside the old case. Contact "Ellard" who may know more.

We will have to talk to Chazza to start casting some aluminium billets that we can machine into an adapter and do it all locally.

    Cheers
    Diana

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
