Thread: 2.0 litre carby & air cleaner wanted

All S1's had a Solex 32 PBI. They were jetted differently for the 1.6 and both 2 litre motors. Don't know if they were the same on the early S2, but I imagine they were, after all it's the same engine.

If you track down more than you need, keep me in mind Colin, as I'm after another couple myself.

If you look on the second page of the S1 section and look at "Replacement Carby" all the specs are there.

Colin; I think you said the bottom had rusted out of your old one. What about bolting it onto your stripped block (so as not to cause an explosion) and oxy-weld a patch into the hole?

This is quite viable if the hole is in the base and I am assuming that the sump is pressed steel, not aluminium. Bolting the sump to the block will help to stop it distorting. Any good panel beater should be able to repair it quite easily; or bring it to Narrogin and I can do it for you

Thanks Numpty, Didn't check the parts book for the S1 and haven't found an electronic one for the S2 yet but guessed carby would be the same. Is the air cleaner identical for 2.0 litre S1 & S2 ?

Chazza, not sure if the sump pan is repairable. Where it was sitting on the damp floor it has completely rusted away and collapsed during transit. Would be possible to repair but looking for the easy option first

There is a copy of the Solex 32 PBIC made in India.... it's the same as a series 1 carby except for a single stage accelerator pump.. Many WW2 and CJ series Jeep owners in the USA use them....cost is just over $ U.S. 100 brand new .

I bought one .. the only problem is .. there's no port for the vacuum advance drilled in it . You have to drill a hole and do it yourself .

BTW there are two versions available .. I got the M.32 PBIC version with the tall adapter for the Jeep air intake .. ( model 32 = 32mm throttle diameter ) I just cut off the tall adapter ,its the WW2 Jeep version ,the other version M.34 is for The CJ series Jeeps .. I got mine from Ron Fitzpatrick of www.G503.com ....he is a top guy .. very honest.
