    Engine bay colours.

Hello, im starting to put the engine bay together on the dingo of a 80inch ive got and im wondering about colours of the fan shroud and a few other things, i was wondering if someone has a restored series 1 if they would not mind posting a few pictures of inside their engine bay, so that i might have half a clue, i dont even have a half an idea to start with. cheers. G'day Anthony,
I don't have any photos as I am at about the same stage as you on my '51; however; I have been able to find traces of paint on everything except the engine sump (including the hand throttle lever which was the aircraft green of the earlier years!).

Can you find any paint remnants on your parts to help?

    Cheers Charlie

    colour

I can post pics but as I have painted everything if I am wrong there is no point, As far as I know this is the colours: Black- fan and pulleys, radiator top and bottom tanks and sides, core not painted, fan shroud, air cleaner, battery box, sump and a few little brackets i.e.: fuel filter holder, throttle shaft and brackets, plate that fuel pump and voltage reg mounted on cast steering box and steering shaft, steering rods, etc, All body parts are body colour remember no paint on under side of bonnet except overspray. Chassis is silver for the 48s and I think most if not all 49s. After that they are painted body colour up to about the end of 54. I have a 50 that at first look you would say the chassis was black but this is a primer and all the green has faded off. Engine is a dark blue, painted before the block was finished machining thus any machined bits have no paint on them. No paint on alloy castings or the exhaust man.
As ref I have a 48, 50 and 51 firewalls that have not been repainted and still have all fittings.

Thanks for the replies, Charlie i brought myself a sandblasting cabinet about 6 months ago and every thing that could fit in there went in there, i got a bit carried away and forgot to take note of any colour on the parts, Dennis that should get me out of trouble, i think you just about answered every thing for us thanks mate. Anthony.

I have an about April '49 and it has a body colour (early green) chasis. It appears to be original.

Chasis number is R86647XX. Next time that I am with my vehicle, I will get pictures of the remnant chasis paint.
