    Mr. Butler

Harry Butler copped a lot of flak cos of his so called ' betrayal' of the green movement. He went over to the 'other side'. Has he been forgiven yet ?

    They're Home-Well sort of....

So I hired a trailer and drove the what should have been 2 hours (damn sunday drivers) up to Yarraman, then out to the property to pick up the 2a. The plan was to drop it at mum's and pick up the 107' to get it out of the shed. BUT....... I was told it could stay there for a few weeks no problem. Cool, that gives me time to sort out some room.

I left the shorty on the trailer and dragged it down to Incisor's for a pit stop then on to home.

This is the 107' in mums' shed.

Question. Could this be an original trayback?

So after getting home and removing the 2a, I decide to head back up and get the 109' to pick it over then take it back up when I get the 107'. We left at 1930 and got up there at 2245, loaded up and returned home at 0030.

This morning I started pulling all the spare stuff out of the back of the tub and anything else I could find.

Now under the seat I found this. Is it original?

I'm off to look for numbers now.

    Nice tool kit Col!

If you check the driver's handbook I think there is a drawing of the tool kit; I am not near my book at the moment so I can't be of much help, but it looks original to me,

    Cheers Charlie

    Thanks Mate,
The adjustable wrench and a wheel brace I found as well go by the name of King Dick They were so lovable with their names of things back then.

    Have the 2a Numbers
    24316499G

    243
    MODEL: Land Rover Series IIa
BODY TYPE: Basic or Station Wagon
    WHEEL BASE: 88in
    ENGINE: Petrol (2.25l)
    YEARS: 62-71
    DESIGNATION: RHD CKD(export)

    16499
    Serial Number

    Suffix G
    7th Revision of this Model.
    6 design updates
    Suffix used 69-71

Also going by the under diff strenghtening and leaf packs a +35 model as well.

The 109' was assembled by PMC Body No. 478 Seriel 109/478
It was sold from ANNAND & THOMPSON MOTORS, NEWSTEAD BRISBANE.
I found 2 brass plates stating this. One under the hood with recommended lubricants and the other tacked to the dash.

It seems it started life the dark green all over and then was resprayed red exterior with a white roof and white interior and yellow under the hood and engine bay.

That is all I know so far until I attack the rear spring hanger to remove 50+ years of crud.

I doubt it very much. Although fairly well built, it does not have the hallmarks of a 1950s professional build. I would have expected to see, for example, steel angles protecting the corners, and in the fifties the corners of the cross beams would have been rounded at the very least, and probably also tapered from the chassis out. The technique of just running the rope rail through holes in these cross beams is the sort of thing I would expect from an amateur, not a professional. My guess is it is a replacement for a damaged original tub, probably fitted in the sixties or even seventies. Just my opinion though.

I agree, although it is possible that it was made in the 1950's by an amateur; however; it is nice to see something different and if was mine I would keep the tray on the machine as an example of - well as an example of a converted Series 1.

The tray reminds me of my friend's Model T truck, which had a smilar one constructed and made by himself in 1952, and rebuilt by both of us in 1999; in time for the Shannons 2000 bi-centennial rally in Canberra? The crowds were quite taken with such an obviously home-converted truck that had driven all the way from W.A.
