Wheels are interchangeable (except some alloys) across all Series Landrovers (except some FCs) and 90/110/Defender, and some classic RR & Disco wheels will fit (stud pattern is the same, but some alloys and steel wheels will not accommodate the hub on Series Landrovers).

However, wheels did change across Series Landrovers.

Very early Series 1 had narrower (4.5") rims, and most swb rims should be 5", lwb 5.5". Offset changed, with more offset for later Series 3 and even more for 90/110/Defender. Later Series 3 used locally made wheels with a continuous rib joining the stud holes. These do not allow the earlier (double sided) type wheel nut to go on as far as the original wheel, but seem to work OK - the stud does not go right through those nuts anyway.

So in summary, you can use wheels off Series 1/2/2a/3, but preferably all the same. In particular, make sure they are all the same width and offset (check the number on the wheel). Many if not most swb have had the wider rimmed lwb wheels fitted, and these are preferred if fitting larger than 7.00x16 tyres.

John is correct, however if you want to be a rivet counter, the pre-1953 Series 1's all had UK manufactured rims with a date stamp on the outside of the rim. From 1953 Australian assembled Land Rovers, mostly those built by Pressed Metals Corp had rims stamped ROK AUSTRALIA (Rubery Owens and Kelmsley), the same company that later became Rubery Owens Holdings (ROH) and yes the same parent company that made bulldozers and the 101's powered trailer.

I seem to remember, all series 1's should have had part number 231601 (stamped in the rim) 5" rims while the 107s and 109s had 7.00 16 tyres. (I would check this data but a friend has borrowed my 1954 - 1957 parts catalogue) The wider 5.5" rims only arrived on the series 2.

Wider rims were specified when 900x16 tyres were fitted, and NAS vehicles had 15" wheels, as did the Series 3 Game. But I have never seen the first two (except for the FC).

On the 109 could be correct, however as I said, I'm flying blind in the absence of my 54-57 parts catalogue. The 107 is most definitely the same 5" 231601 rims.

The 5.5" rims were only required for the 7.50 16 tyres which were not an option until the 2 1/4 litre engine was my belief.

You are right on the part No of 231601 for the 5.0 inch rims, as fitted to 88" vehicles, the 109 had 272309's mostly, i will list what I have from the P/book 605957 Dec 68,

Late Series 3 rims NRC 7578 or FV2000727 similar to 110/Defender
