There was also a 6 week run from Perth to Alice next year, and a few of us thought a wagon wheel to meet up in Alice would be a good idea.

    Who pays the piper?

An issue not always discussed here is that a number of the local "events" are run by the local or state Land Rover club. I regularly attend Paxina and The Gathering, however in light of the public liability insurance conditions many clubs (the LROC Sydney Branch included) have a policy that people can only attend 1 trip as a guest before they are required to join the club. In my personal case I am a member of both the LROC Sydney Branch and the LROCV so attendance at either event is not a problem

This may however cause problems for non-members and may be the reason that people do not know the events are on.

I guess it's a case of if we want to enjoy our hobby we also need to share the costs and responsibilities that encompasses.

I would have to agree with NM, a while back I was a member of Brisbane LOC and found that it was 99% focased on the newer coil sprung Land Rovers and that leaf sprund Landys were few far between, however I did go on a few trips with my old 109" S1 but found that there was no much "socks & sandle briagde" so I didnt both to renew my membership after 1998.

I think maybe for us here in QLD having a informal gathering between like minded people would be the way to go weather your a Land Rover club member or not wouldnt matter. Just putting the idea out there.

Sounds like a plan. If someone wants to organise an event in QLD for Series 1 owners i would be more then happy to attend.....

I would have to agree with you Seriously.
Whilst the Alice Springs idea is a ripper I am just not that confident that my bum could handle 4 weeks in a series 1

Without trying to alienate our western brothers I would think a gathering somewhere central to the eastern states might be fun (Wilcannia?).

Diana has a good point though, as soon as you organise something there is legal accountabilities that must be considered (like it or not - that's the world we live in) and usually some kind of public liability insurance is required. That's why these type of events are normally held by the big LRO clubs.

P.S. I have no idea where Paxina is?? Google earth doesn't either.

Everyones quite correct, most of the LRO clubs around the place focus on "coilers" as the Series One Register Victoria people like to smirk and it was their inviting me to The Gathering that got me back into the "club scene".

However what you have to realise is that LRO clubs will only give it's members what it's members want to put in, and in the last couple of years the series side of the LROC in Sydney is moving from strength to strength.

My advice, join your local LRO club do some networking and use the clubs resources to build up the local series 1 or series 2 side of it.

You will be surprised how many coiler owners have a series LR stashed away somewhere.
