    Rear Main Seal

    Hi All,

My father in law has asked me to source a Rear Main Seal for his 57 Series 1 LWB. Can anyone please help with this? Preferably in Australia. His mechanic says they have tried "everywhere" but I doubt they have the knowledge re: Land Rover parts that you guys would have.

    Thanks,
    Mark.

    Try Four Wheel Drives: (03) 98 900 509
    www.landrovers.com.au

I just had a look in their catalog, and it specifies a 2 piece unit for $93, but you'd have to check with them for year etc.

Where are you? You can take a chance with FWDs, but they may send you a tail light instead.

Land Vehicle Spares at Silverdale (Penrith) NSW is good, as is All Fourx4 at Kotara.

Google the names for contact details.

hehehe, shonky! LoL. also FWD's are not really selling series 1 stuff these days mainly 2, 2a, 3's and up!

you could also try Rover Parts Plus in Ballarat, VIC.

    Klattsy,
I tried to get one from Four Wheel Drives about 18months ago and they had no stock (hadn't had them for some time) and quoted a price of about $200. A lot of prices in their catalogue are incorrect, gearbox mounting rubbers (GR1/GR2) are difficult to get so price was $50 each.

If you can't find one locally then maybe you may have to source from the UK.

If Shonky is right and you might get a taillight instead I'll order a couple, have you seen the price of Pork Pie taillights !!!

    Colin.

PS: Never changed my rear main seal and the leak isn't as bad as I at first thought.
