    old landie needs some TLC

Hi Ive got myself an early Landie to restore. The old timer is 06106188. She looks a bit rough. All the mechanicals undercover in the shed just in case he needed them. Engine is 16101408. Does anyone know if its the original motor

Jock, that makes the motor a 1951. Thanks. She will take a bit of work but I was after one of those early ones with the headlights behind the mesh. The old bus will come back OK. The firewall and chassis are in fine so looking forward to getting them blasted and primed and a good coat of cockpit green, Len

Yes, it is in need of a bit of work, but if the firewall and chassis are in good shape, everything else is relatively easy!

Except maybe for availability of panels etc as they are not the easiest thing to find nor to repair successfully.

That makes my project SI look like a walk in the park!!

I am full of admiration for people who can take something so far gone and get it up and running again.

Hope it goes well - and post up some pictures of your progress along the way.

    Cheers

Yes and a severe lack of engine parts as well , at least on this side of the world

    And steering box parts

    And electrical parts

    And canvas parts

    And brake slave cylinders

    And instruments

I agree with Numpty an Mike - in fact in my case the chassis and bulkhead presented little in the way of challenges, being much like any other rusty Land Rover and straightforward to make repair panels for.

To Mike and Numpty's list I add more specifically:
Tail lights - some are available but rather expensive compared to S2 and 3.
Horn button and dip switch - as available as hen's teeth, however, Chazza is on to making new ones
Brake master cylinder - very expensive but if you have the old one get it re-sleeved.
Speedometer - unique; without this you won't get it licenced, which is the fate awaiting my 80" at the moment If you have one get it re-conditioned.
Fuel tank - unique to the breed apparently; if you have the old keep it, even if it is leaky as they can be repaired. In my case I made a new one.

This a totally useless bit of info..but the 80" speedo isn't unique to series 1 80" Land Rovers . I've seen it ( exactly the same speedo ) in one other vehicle .

    Guy Quad Ant Artillery Tractor

    Quad Ant finished

    The finished Guy Quad Ant

The Guy features cable actuated brakes and a big 4 cyl. side valve motor ... top speed is about 30 mph downhill.

Numpty won't like this tenous link to series 1's but there is a connection , however thin it is
