Yep - as Scott has said, just do it yourself. If you know someone who can teach you, great. If not, enrol in a TAFE class. (TAFE is a country wide technical college. They have courses in everything from painting to welding to aged care to hairdressing to basket weaving etc etc.)

You can probably arrange to just do the painting bit of the course. 
There are a few main different types of paint too:
2-pack is the nasty stuff that paint shops use. It is tough and great when dry, but dangerous to spray without the right gear. Not really amatuer territory.
Enamel is the stuff you get in spray cans. It is easier to spray but can still have some nasties in it and sticks to EVERYTHING.
Acrylic (what I use) is easy, safe and cheap. It is not quite as hard wearing as the other two, but certainly tough enough.
(PS - I'm no expert, but the above is how I understand it. I have got very good results using a cheapish spray gun and acrylic paint.
