LL/Ian - my latest quote for Firestone Military NDT or Ford Script bar treads in 6 x 16 was $220 - think it was from Antique tyres - so $110 sounds like a bargain.

For those looking for 750x16 bar treads (I think - have asked the question) there's a full unused set on Defender rims on ebay right now - search 'land rover' - $650.

Gromit I'd be interested in any news on the 650x16s from India.

    Thanks

That is a good price. I got a price of $75 for these in China
T28 are still available in Malaysia but the tyre suppliers won't bring them in to the country.

Where do I get the 600 x 16 for $75? I'd be calling them tomorrow.

Phone number or name and I'll look up their number, cheers

Any truck tyre service should be able to get you a range of tyres from China or India. The Indian MRF brand seem to have no complaints, although if you want to be original in Oz then the tyres you should have on the fully imported 1948 or 1949 should be Dunlop T28 (lotz-A-luck), on your CKD 80", 86' or 107" should be Olympic Bar treads, while later series 1's had a variety of Dunlop and Olympic Bar treads and later Olympic "All Purpose Lug" or Dunlop "RTM".

Had a look at the Malaysian Dunlop website - new T28 Trakgrips and T29As straight from the 1950's workshop manual - amazing. I want them!

Had my tyre bloke chase around and got the same response as others - not a chance.

Someone must know someone bringing a container down who could stash a few tyres in? Or a tyre retailer who's not tied to major buying contracts?

    Hmmm

I am not buying tyres at the moment--when I wear out the tyres on the series 3 have 2 brand new spares a bit like bar treads, forget what they are, and would chase two more matching at that time, but I recon you guys should get together a group buy from C hina now. Just a thought

I know people who got a container load of T28s into Australia. They could not offload them locally and had to send them to the UK. I am pretty sure that the series one club has them for sale if you want to import them from England back to Australia.

Thanks slug. Sounds like one of those 'should have been here yesterday' fishing stories. Are these people you know planning any more imports?

That was at least 5 years ago and I am almost positive the supply has run out almost as long ago. The problem here, as i understand, was not necessarily that they didn't want to buy, it was more of the typical "Yes I ordered them but now I don't want to pay for them" or "I'm not paying that price, I'll wait until you can't sell them and I'll buy them at a bargain price".

Well it didn't happen, as usual people in the U.K. know the true value of these things and were prepaired to pay the full price so they went to the U.K.

If we in Oz want to be cheapskates then all our good bits will go to the UK where they are happy to pay the price.
