    Spread or Siamese

    Hello Gurus

Would an engine number 47109*** be a siamese or spread bore 2 litre?

I think it is a 1954 siamese but not convinced.

    Thanks in advance.

Be convinced - 4710**** is a 1954 engine from a 107" (or including 86" after checking)- Siamese Bore!

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Thanks Diana - I'm getting better at this. I should trust my own detective skills. Now to chase up another other lead..

I take it the series 5710**** (1955) is the start of the spread bores.

Given that some blocks arrived without a number for warranty claims. The easy way to tell a spread bore is not by the number but the presence of the aluminium oil filter housing under the aluminium inlet manifold.

I do not see an oil filter under the inlet manifold - looks like a siamese.

    @ Lr Donk

    Hi all
    it's a early 2 lr
the thin 1/8 or 3/16 copper tube is a dead give away
it is replacing the by-pass filter under the exhaust manifold
    cheers

    Thanks all for your help.

If anyone has a pic of a spread bore they want to post up here that would be terrific.

Oh, and here is the link to the above siamese engine.

    Just studying the parts manual

Is this the filter I should see on the spread bore?

In short, yes, that is the oil filter from a spread bore.
