    Matilda's VIN/engine details

    Hello Folks,

I managed to find Matilda's Chassis number last night - it was on the rear spring hanger - as people here told me and as my manual said too.

The chassis number is.... 57662061 - which gives these details....

So she is a 1955 86 incher. I spoke to the previous owner again, he wasn't aware it was a 86" - but did know it has 1956 front end and a 1957 engine. He reckons many such vehicles are now, to some degree, a mix. He said that as far as he knows, it was not damaged in any accident, rather some bits from the original were beyond repair.

The engine number is....111707417 - which gives the details...

So she has a Series 1 1957 2 litre petrol engine.

Now to get her registered. I have discovered I do need the wing mirrors for rego, so that's on the list too.

Are you absolutely sure about needing wing mirrors? My Alfa doesn't have any, but it never did from new. I guess if it was designed with wing mirrors from new, then I could understand that you need to get it back to factory spec.

Col said he needed them for rego - but then took them off as they are, "as useful as a blah on a blah"

    Matilda's VIN

I just registered and this is my first post, so here goes.
Scallops Matilda is VN 57662061 and mine is 57662054, only 7 away. So the two vehicles should be all but identical. It might be good to compare notes. Mine (we also named her matilda about 10 years ago) is a hardtop built from a CKD at Annand & Thompson in Bris.

I need a new coil and bought a Bosch G40. Does anyone know which is the common terminal? I can't get a spark.

Look forward to joining the discussion, Paul

You do not need them for a vehicle of this age (also passenger wiper, washers, seat belts, indicators etc) - BUT - is it worth arguing the point when you are getting the roadworthy done. If you have the holes already I would just put in a set of cheap motorcycle ones or get one from a vintage car parts seller that clips or bolts onto the windscreen frame.

It may be a case of if there are/were some kind of mirror fitted, then it has to be serviceable. I wouldn't think you would need mirrors for rego, although mine has them (useless as) Seatbelts also not needed but if fitted must be serviceable. I removed mine before rego.

Fine purchase there Scallops/Katwoman. Does it have door tops?

Yes, we have the door tops too.

I have managed to get a pair of mirrors for her so will fit these - it fils in the wing holes and then no one can argue the point when it comes around for rego.
