Hello Folks,
Eventually I plan on replacing the perished windscreen rubber on Matilda.
I can get a genuine windscreen rubber - it is $85.00. Is that a good price or can a suitable alternative be bought from places like Clark rubber for much less?
One more thing - does anyone know where I might find a pair of mudflaps with Land Rover written in white on them?

I would get the genuine for $85. You will find a huge difference between the Clark rubber and genuine
Hi Dan I got my under windscreen rubber of ebay for about $50 AUD + postage from the UK here is the link

Such enthusiasm in a new S1 owner is great to see.
Certainly my advice is try at all costs to avoid going down the 'Clarke Rubber' track.
Your vehicle looks like a really nice example to build upon so try and get the right items where you can or repro if you have too.
She has survived this long so 'treat' her a bit and she will give you loyal sevice for years to come.

PS and don't let anyone tell you S1's only do 40 MPH... They do 60 if you let them.
I asked for this part at a local joint, and was advised to use some insertion rubber instead.
G'day All, I use a local (90k's away) car restorer, he stocks all manner of rubber inserts, the last time I bought an item like that it was around $15-20 dollar mark, look around before parting with that sort of loot unless money no object to you cheers Dennis![]()
Hello Dinty - Matilda (and indeed Grover) are both very special to me, but money is certainly "an object" - so I'm going to see if Grockle can provide me with an email address for his contact Neil. Genuine rubber at 2.35 Sterling, and mudflaps for 26 odd pounds - that I can afford.
I will replace anything that needs with genuine parts where at all possible. It will just be a work in progress. And as has been said, by 260AC, Matilda is in relatively good condition, has survived this long, so she deserves to be kept as original as possible.
Thank you everyone again for your considered advice - as I mentioned before, this forum is such a special place, to be able to draw on such a body of knowledge is really wonderful.
PS - I have found a pair of wing top mirrors for Matilda - as per the ones Lost Landy recommended in an earlier post - they are virtually identical to the original items, well - they will be once I paint them gloss black!

With the A$ at over 50p, I would bite the bullet, do a quick inventory of what needs replacing and order as much of everything as possible! Combined shipping is always going to be better than getting things one at a time.
