OK, after letting all the smoke out of my wiring, I have been farting about just trying to get the old thing running,
There must still be a bit of smoke left in there, I have it turining over and even starting IF I pour fuel down the carbi...BUT the fuel pump won't play, I am getting power to the top connection, but no "clickk click" from inside the pump....
ideas?...it worked well prior to the smoke escaping, could it be affected by that event?....yes there is fuel (not "gas" as someone keeps referring to it!) yes there is power, no fuel blocks etc, the fuel pump is standard lucas 'standing tube" style on fire wall with good earth to body...
before I undo it all....any suggestions?
cheers

This sounds exactly like my problem two days ago. Pump ticked away but wasnt doing much. We pulled it apart and gave it a clean and put it back in and now no more clicky. Ended up replacing it and now she goes like a ripper. There was bit of crud in the old pump and i think it had just had its day.

						 petrol pump woes
 petrol pump woes
just to let you know what I experienced with my petrol pump. it may be of some help to others...
Pump stopped ticking, removed pump to inspect and clean if possible.
everything seemed OK.
Took pump into local club member garage an explained the problem.
he tested it and said it was OK , but then sent to Sydney company for further testing.
Revilo SU Repair and Restoration
One week later pump returned, tested OK , NO CHARGE FOR TESTING
club member returned pump to my hot little hands.
Refitted pump at home and still did not work! bugger..
Phoned my brother and told of sad tale of woe.
He, an experienced owner of many MG's with similar pumps then said the following.
Peter, you pump has to "suck" the fuel and if the pipe is any way obstructed it wont 'suck'.
I removed the pipes from the pump and the glass filter and blew them out with compressed air.
Refitted pipes and pump has been working faithfully ever since.
Look, listen, read and learn
tata from me
PS this latest pump is fully electronic, no points etc, but has a ticker inside to give the original sound of the old pump, keeps the purists happy on a sunny day and me all the time...

PS the link above was not the company that did not charge , but one link that I found useful.
This is the link in Australia that returned the SU fuel pump , tested and tried and absolutely no charge, because it was working perfectly, here it is:

		Digger,
its most important to blow out the pipe from the glass filter to the fuel tank.
If it has the very slightest obstruction or partial blockage of gunk or other, it will not suck .
No matter what you do it wont work and consequently not SUCK.
I recommend that you check this first, along with blowing out the rest of the fuel lines.
Peter
