Thread: Tickford Research

Get hold of John Smith's book - "Landrover The Formative Years 1947-1967", Bristol, 2009, ISBN 978-0-9561708-0-4. My copy came from Fishpond (fastest promised delivery), but it is published by the Landrover Series 1 Club.

It has one chapter on the Tickford, and this would be a good starting point - not much point in redoing what he has already done!

The Tickford wagons only came with the freewheel unit constant 4wd and they stopped production just before the change to 2/4 selection.

Thanks - that is what I figured - any clues on where I might get copies of tech drawings etc.

Hi Garry,
Phil Wilson just joined the forum and he posted a description of the 4WD on the Tickford at The 80 inch Mulliner estate cars just in case you hadn't seen it yet.

He reports that his was originally pale green all over and that is how I remember the car (more recently dubbed sage green).

Yes there is currently a bit of debate about the use of the term "sage green" which is actually a much darker colour on some British sports cars.

Perhaps we should start calling it the Colorbond colour "Rivergum" that a number of people believe is a pretty close match.

While cleaning up the bits of R06200384 I saw that the number 03 was stamped on the back of the striker plates of the doors and tailgate. Under the tailgate inner cover. Inside the tailgate hinges. and inside the Glovebox panel assembly. My guess is that its a Tickford assembly number, maybe the third built in 1950. Be interesting research to follow up on other Tickfords and see what their numbers are.
