Scallops '55 86inch: Matilda

Hello again Folks - I know this might be considered dodgy in the purist world of Series 1 renovations, but Matilda's tail gate capping was looking pretty shabby. 2 options - re-galvanise, or do this...
I used rust converter to clean it up, which worked a treat. I then painted it with Cold Gal as per the piccies below.... :rulez:

So, I'm going to paint these capping bits - they will be a dull silver when I'm done.

Now, onto the bonnet - I also did the same to the spare wheel carrier....

Overall, I reckon the spare wheel bit looks pretty neat as is - so I might leave it.

Anyhow, whatever the purists say - I reckon she's starting to look really good - and I guess that's all that matters; after all, it's my truck :D

Mate, no Cold Gal is going anywhere near Grover - at least, not until he is 54 years old!

I think its a personal thing, I myself love the weathered look that takes 40+ years to acheve. I also have to say I hate the new shiny finish on todays gal coating.

I'm going to use this over the Cold gal....

This is supposed to look like Duragal® and Zincalume®, and is designed to be used over the Cold Gal I have used already.

Once done, I'll post more pics here. :)

When I first started my current restoration (1998) a mate did a full showroom job. He drilled out every rivet and regalvanised every section of gal bodywork. Then he rebuilt it with new rivets. I was impressed but it looked like too hard work for my liking so I cleaned, and rust passivated and painted with the forerunner of the White Knight steel silver. Ten years on it looks great, just like slightly weathered galvanising and I can't tell the original gal parts from the painted ones.

Now I am using exactly what you suggest. I am using it on brake cyls and pipes, engine parts (top of oil filter, thermostat housing), windscreen frame, bonnet spare wheel frame etc. It looks great. So I say, go for it! Paul:arms:
