Thread: Clevis pins

Any good bolt shop or engineer's supplier has them. You can buy an assortment box of clevis pins.

Thanks Brian, I thought so. However I wondered how available the specific type is. With a 1/4 inch shank, the end has what appears to be a 1/2 inch BSW thread with a screwdriver slot. The clevis is machined to suit that type and Whit threads are often hard to find. See my rather blurry picture (click on it). Paul

Get a 1/2" BSW cap screw, turn the outer end down to requiired dimension and length leaving the amount of screw thread required. Drill it for the locking wire. You could turn the hex head round and saw/file a screw slot in it if you are paranoid about originality.

Hi Brian and thanks for your help. What you are suggesting was my fallback position as I didn't want to have to fabricate the whole of the linkage. As I do not have a lathe I was rather hoping someone would have a box full somewhere. Anyway, I have a friend who lives locally with a lathe and a milling machine, so if I set it up I might machine quite a few so others can have some too. I don't know if anyone else loses them like I did bouncing around the farm.

What I cannot understand is the design. Why Rover did that instead of designing it just as you suggest. And no, I am not paranoid about originality. In the photo I posted, the red pipe is the fuel pipe, not original but much better. I prefer safety and reliability. I think your design is superior.

The thread is 1/2" BSF Paul. I have made all of mine but I have the advantage of owning a lathe.

If the pin is badly worn, the holes in the clevis will be as well - some of mine I welded and re-drilled but other clevises were too knackered, so I made them on the lathe as well,
