Thread: Bleeding Brakes in a Series 2A

G'day Mick,
Mine were easy, though it was a 2 person job and took a bit of time. Went through perhaps 1&1/2 bottles of fluid in total though.
One person at the wheel puts a ring spanner on the bleed nipple and connects clear tube/jar to it. Other person in drivers seat. The bloke on the ground calls the shots. Slow pedal pressure->open bleed->close bleed before bottom of pedal stroke->raise pedal rinse and repeat.
I've not bled any other brakes, so if some vehicles are easier than that, it must be cheating.

to start with on the series II with the single line brakes the initial bleed can be hard to get right.

I like to wind the adjusters up to hold the shoes on the drums prior to starting this stops the springs from letting the slave cylinders "pump" air and fluid around in the brake lines.

I have found it useful in the past to clamp off the three hoses and bleed one section at a time by unclamping one of them at a time. It also lets you know where the problem is.

In some cases it is useful to remove the brake drum and clamp the shoes together to minimise the volume of the cylinder. Also remember that you can bleed at any union you can loosen.

But in general I have never had any problems bleeding them as such (problems have usually turned out to be a faulty master cylinder!).

I had a brake joint pressue bleed my last lot. $38 all up. Complete flush and new fluid and good (relatively) brakes. worth every cent
