    Fuel Pump Dilemma

Not sure if this has been covered before but here goes.

I recently bought a S2A 2 1/4 ltr petrol fuel pump kit from a supplier. After opening the box, I realized that the central oil seal was different to the original seal removed from the pump. It appears to be of a larger diametre and shape.

I tried to fit the new seal but to no avail

I returned the kit to the supplier only to find that this new fuel pump kit (with the larger oil seal) is the only kit available. Although part numbers for the original seal are listed in the parts manual, we could not find this part number on other suppliers websites. We came to the conclusion that they are no longer produced.

The photo below shows the original oil seal with it's retainer (centre) and the new kit seal (right).

Can I purchase an old style oil seal on it's own and if so, from where?

    Thanks

They most probably re designed the pump housing in aftermarket production
to take the different seal. NOS fuel pump kits are had to find nowdays.
Some after market pumps are just average too. Like a lot of series stuff these days with after market. you got to put up with the best of a bad lot these days. Dunsfold and the like in the UK might have them.......

Problem is, I wish to rebuild the original pump

I have one of those aftermarket pumps Paul which I put onto the Land Rover to keep it running. I would like to take it off and refit the original. Call me crazy but I like to keep my Land Rover as original as possible.

What is the Kit's number. Is there a difference between a 4 cyl. kit and a 6 cyl kit?

Just went out to the shed....I have a fuel pump kit has the part number AEU2760. Also have a new fuel pump which I got from MR at Redcliffe

    Rob

That part number/kit is the same as the one I have. You will find that it will not suit original fuel pumps

    It will however suit these..

You might be lucky to get a Goss fuel pump kit. Even they are getting scarce
as most went to a sealed throw away one.
the Goss part No for the land rover is a 966vc.
the only holden pump that matches up is the lc torana 4 cyl 966vc.
The 6cyl holden pump kit is a 951kt -4 psi
The other kit is for the V8 957kt -7psi.
I have some AC 186 -202 fuel pumps and a few Land Rover 4 cyl pumps
when i get time i will see if both diaghprams / seals are the same......
