    hey Garry

    Berco closed down last Christmas.

The guy I have taken it to (also in Mitchell) is going to see how it goes with a rebore to .020". If that looks OK I am to then take the pistons to him and he will hone it to the pistons.

If it doesn't look OK, he will bore it to .030" and we will get a set of .030" pistons for him to play with.

I delivered the block to him this morning. Should be ready for the pistons early next week.

Is that right - they used to be one of the largest engine workshops in Aust - with all the gear, including ovens and head welding ability etc. All the car clubs used to use them.

I have previously used them to hone and crank grind a subaru engine and then later modify a holden bell housing to suit a jag engine, modify a chev flywheel to suit the same and balance a clutch to fit the flywheel - all at a good price.

So where did you go in the end?

So, we are still mucking around...

The rebore man is a bit difficult to deal with - he has more work than he can handle and, consequently, timelines slip... but I cannot fault his enthusiasm.

On Tuesday he advised that boring to .020" would be marginal as the lip I had felt was fairly pronounced and there was definitely a bit of an oval aspect to the bores.

We agreed on .030" but, since my supplier had been left hanging while we waited for the report from the rebore man, they had sold their last set of .030" - so we are going to .040"

I ordered (and paid) for the new pistons last night (Wednesday) and they were here on my doorstep in Canberra when I got home tonight (Thursday) - delivered from Brisbane! $75 a piston including rings, gudgeons and circlips. They threw in free little end bearings. I like that!

So... I have to take some time off work tomorrow to deliver the pistons and he will hone them to each cylinder. I doubt that he will get the job done tomorrow so I will be taking a bit more time off next week to go pickup my block and pistons...

Then it will be engine rebuild time! YAY!
