The 252313730 number is almost correct for an SIIa 2.283 litre engine, although I rather suspect that the last character is incorrect. I would suspect the number to be something like 25231373G and would have been first fitted to a vehicle in late 1965 or early 1966. The engine number immediately before was delivered to a customer in January 1966.
This is the assembly number and is of minimal assistance identifying the vehicle.
Yes it should be the chassis number.No it's a 1966 No all Land Rovers had that ID plate, irrespective of where they were builtNo its a standard CKD 88 Hard top petrol, delivered to Midway Service Station on 11/1/1966.
I think if you investigate the engine number you will find it is: 25231372G
I use an N70ZZ although you can use smaller.
If it was originally -ve earth there should be an ID showing Neg Earth. What it started as may not be the current config.
