Cabin noise level - iPhone App noise meter

Just thought I'd post the noise level I measured in my S2a using the iPhone App noise meter I recently downloaded, and see what other people measure. (Don't get the wrong idea here - I'm not a geek / electronics whizz / techno-freak or anything remotely similar)

On a flat road at around 95kph (ie "almost flat out) with the front vents open and the drivers window open I measured around 93dB with the phone lying on my thigh. I should have played around with holding it in different positions and vents closed, window closed, different speeds, etc, I guess.

I'm also guessing that means that the OSH Police will be onto me for driving for more than a couple of hours without ear-muffs??

    Cheers
    John B

Did the same thing last week with Smeg the S3 diesel and registered 101 dba. I suppose the good thing is when we go for a drive I can plead ignorance when I can't hear SWMBO

interesting, but who's got ears on their lap [not going there you lot!]

wouldn't the reading be more accurate if you held the noise meter near your ear to get a reading of what you hear?

Since 1959 in my case, but also been flying light aircraft since 1965, which does not help the hearing either. And shooting military rifles since 1954. And chainsaws. And .........

I should have said scores of years rather than decades!

But yes John you have at least a decade more on Landies than I and even then, I was barely a teenager merely learning to drive.

My first Landrover experience was in a vacation job with the BMR while I was at University (working as a field assistant - typical day, working with a geologist, leave the Landrover and walk for a couple of hours, with my pack getting heavier at every outcrop. Then we sight a road - "go get the Landrover while I write up my notes!". Did wonders for my map reading skills!). But this is why I bought one myself three years later.
