Have you jacked up each wheel & made sure it spins freely? If not, there's probably a seized wheel cylinder or two.
Hi All,
Slowly restoring my 61 LWB Ute (ex-farm vehicle).
How difficult should it be to push the Landy when it is in neutral, on a flat surface and naturally the hand brake is off?
I cannot push the car by myself - it needs 2 men to do it!
I have not yet checked or serviced the entire drive-train for grease or oil levels. Is there something that I should be looking at first?
There are no crunching or grinding noises - it's just very hard to push around.
As always any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I've got the same problem and I,m driving mine every day.I know I've got no binding brakes and the drive train is turning freely .But I,m on cross ply tyres which tend to develop a flat spot when sitting overnight.The only way I can move mine by hand is by getting hold of a tyre to get it moving.

Yes; check for a dragging brake
I move my 2A about using the starting handle, low-range and the plugs taken out. The S3 needs a husband and wife effort to push it,

I used to watch - The Grey Ghost, when I was a kid, early 60's,US civil war, black & white TV - great show
Anyway, I know you said handbrake was off but I think it's the handbrake shoes are seized to the drum & dragging -- can you get underneath & rotate the rear shaft just a little to see the spline & diff wear - if it wont budge then it's the handbrake.

well I'm not surprised you cant move it I think they are dog heavy vehicles flat ground or not
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
Even with nothing dragging, they are pretty hard to push - they are heavy! However, I would check for dragging brakes, expecially the handbrake - because it has a 4.7:1 mechanical advantage, just a little bit of drag there is that much more effective. As suggested, see if the prop shaft turns freely - chock three wheels, jack up each wheel one at a time and check that they turn freely with the handbrake off.
Other things that will make it harder to move are low tyre pressures, coarse tread tyres, badly misaligned steering, and if it is stuck in four wheel drive.

i can move my 109 about but only by turning a wheel rather than by directly pushing, i do know that all my brakes are free though
p.s.
i'm 9.5stone soaking wet, so i can't exactly be described as big and muscular![]()
Well guys I basically sorted out what was wrong...
The front brakes are locked on - I discovered this once the car was on axle stands... I'm in the process of trying to remove the drums to see what's what!
