G'day All, Basically it was just the fitting on the end (knob) S2/2A's had a circular raised knob end & S3 was more like duck's beak (for the want of a better description) me myself would keep looking for a set rather than use the S3 type, cheers Dennis
ps some of the S2/2A also had the types with the screw type regulator, I think I have 2 of that type in the shed..

From memory (its a few years since I compared them) the Series 3 is identical except that the knob is different - but in the S2a and S3 they are the opposite way up, so if you use a S3 one the knob will be the wrong way up. Still work perfectly well, but does not look too good.

I bought a pair of S3 vent levers to use on my S2 restoration, and they don't fit in any way.

On a S2, vent open is down, S3 is the other way round.

If you want to check, I've got a pair of S3 vent levers sitting down the back . . .
