Hey Mick.

Most series II's had 6.00 16's but 7.50 16's are the go I reckon, some swb's were optioned with these from factory. I think 7.50 16 is the same as 235/85/16?

I think it depends on how deep your pockets are, but those bravos would be ok for all round offside work I think. I have been investigating cheap retread rags for the series on the road, and maybe some mud terrains on separate rims. You can source some pretty cheap rubber, but I am still unsure about how durable they are.

My older 2a has 7.50x16 on original rims and the more recent purchase has some big fat Yokohame Super Digger 31x10.5x15 LT retreads on sunrasyas. It is near impossible to turn the steering wheel! I am taking it back to original wheels and hope that it will help the steering.

I am looking at some Goodyear 7.50x16's at the moment - the guy has 2 brand new ones and 2 hardly used ones (about 95%) that will come in at about $800 fitted and balanced.

I'll be interested in other peoples thoughts, too, so I am subscribing to this thread.

Cheers fellas. I might chuck the original rims with those Bravos on and see what they are like. Next run out to Lithgow I will hopefully take the SII and see how they go

If they are similar at all to the Sime Frontiers I have on mine they won't be too bad offroad. They bag out nicely and have a decent amount of grip for a non-aggressive tread pattern I think.

My SWB 2a is running Federal's Couragia MT in 235/85R16 on standard LR series steel rims.
They work wonderfully! Easy to find around here too. I had them fitted in Richmond. Excellent grip on and off road, and at S2a speeds, no road noise.

I'm not quite responding to your actual thread question, but I have just (like I just walked inside from finishing putting the tools away) removed the power steering system from my S2a. It had 31x10.5R15 tyres on Sunraysia style rims so the power steering was installed to make that easier - as well as covering for the small Momo sports steering wheel (by previous owners).

I've taken all the power steering off (hydraulic reservoir, hydraulic pump, hydraulic ram, modified Drag Link and the hoses) and put an original Drag Link and 16" original wheels back on. The wheels are fitted with Dunlop Road Gripper tyres in 7.50x16, with about 80% tread on them. Might go for a test drive after dinner.

Sorry Mick, I can't remember if your SII is an 88 or 109. 109 were usually fitted with 700 or 7.50 16 while 88 had 6.00 or 6.50 16.

Just remember, you should not fit 7.50 16 to the 5" rim (231601), and if you are using other than 100 profile radial tyres, like Cooper 235/85 R16 which requires a 6" to 7" rim minimum. So before you choose, you should also check that the Series rims you are using meet the minimum spec of the selected tyres.

Series Land Rover rims, were mostly 5" or 5 1/2".
