I installed a radio under the instrument panel. Now it should be noted that there is not enough depth available there for a standard size radio. However, I managed to find an older radio at a swap meet that is significantly smaller. It actually came as three units - tuner, equaliser/amp, and cassette player. I have not used the cassette player, as this would have made it too high. For recorded music I use an MP3 player into a small transmitter. Speakers are in the (deluxe trim) door lining. Works quite well.

In previous Series 2a, 2 and 1 Landrovers I have generally installed the radio under the glovebox tray either side, but this does cut into your knee room a bit.

Sorry about the picture quality - its a blowup of bit cut out of another picture!

Hey Andrew, I fitted a Eurovox radio cassette from a D1 Discovery to Smeg in a roof console, mounted the speakers in face of some shelves that run the length of the rear roof canopy so that they are just above the head of the driver and passenger. Except for the fact that the speakers I found in my back shed are a bit on the ordinary side for sound quality, it works quite well.

    Hey Andrew,

My IIA's radio is installed in the roofspace above the windscreen, in front of the driver (or, rather, it usually is there...but the vehicle is in a million bits at the moment). Up to now, I have just had it wedged into the corner...but when I get it all back together again I will make a proper console.

The speakers are mounted in the very rear, either side of the top tailgate and right up high. I can even hear them over the overdrive....

I've got a radio in my middle seat on my SIII, an interesting spot for it I know, it was carfully positioned and doesn't really detract from seating comfort, pokes out the front which makes the contols impossible to see whilst driving but I need louder speakers anyway.

This is the overhead console in a series 3 that I am wrecking. Pretty simple timber which brackets onto the inside guttering, 2 speakers in the console plus 2 in the rear either side of the tailgate just above the little windows. I'm not a huge fan of overhead consoles though.

No need for a radio in a series land rover - the rush of the wind, the whine of the gearbox and drone of the engine is all the music I need.

Almost the same as Smeg's setup. I was thinking of removing the console and mounting it somewhere else, but I didn't want to cut into the dash and it's up out of the way and hopefully (fingers crossed) away from any water ingress.(yeah yeah I know wishful thinking)
