    Exclamation What year please

    G'Day all,
    I'm rebuilding my series 2a and I've become keen to know when he was built. I've had him for the last 13 years and I think it's about a 1970 (ish)
    The numbers are ...
    Chassis...24317909G
    Engine...24121476A

    PMC.....LRS14235
    Ser no..8814235

    Your help and knowledge greatly appreciated.

    Cant tell you exactly, but it is likely assembled in June 1970 because 243178??G's were being sold in NSW from late May 1970.

    Great , thank you that narrows it down , I do know was sold in Albury ,sold and service metal sticker still in engine bay .

    The engine is an earlier model than the original.

    JasonK on here has a '69 suffix G 109" and I recall his engine is a suffix K.

    Interesting, there is another late 2a with a suffix a motor, it could well be original There is a fair few around to make it more than coincidental. When I get to a computer I will make some linkys

    Possible, but I think unlikely. My '68 IIA has a suffix D chassis and suffix J engine, however when that broke some rings and scored the bore I rebuilt a suffix A block I had lying around, rather than the original motor. I then sold that motor on to another 2A owner when I fitted a diesel.

    REMLR lists show that suffix A engines weren't fitted post 1963.

    From what I've been able to glean from various sources, when the 8:1 compression engines were introduced (about 1967-69) their serial numbers started again at zero (various prefixes I don't have access to at the moment) and suffix A. I don't think the diesels or the sixes were affected.

    My 1969 2a is chassis 24315821G and has always had engine 24102132A (an 8:1).

    thanks Dandlandyman , that matches well with the numbers I have, assuming it takes about 6 months from UK (CKD) to assembly here at PMC my chassis number being 2085 later should make early 1970 in factory and about June 1970 here ...well I'm guessing a bit , cheers

    Dan is correct about his vehicle and engine number however is not quite correct about the engine sequences and suffix.

    Starting with the 1959 SII 88 Rover Australia/PMC fitted 109" sequence petrol engines to 88" vehicles this continued up to suffix K engines. Then somewhere between 24315639D to 23415814G suffix G commenced and they started fitting A suffix engines in the correct 88" sequence. Dan's vehicle is in the first batch of suffix G sold in NSW and the lowest number I have found is 24100544A fitted to a vehicle a few pages after Dan's. Addit: Have found 24100453A fitted to an E-Com NSW 109" but that is the lowest 241 A suffix in the Grenville books.

    Anyone interested in this sort of thing, there is a margin comment "Suffix G Locking doors"

    BTW: 109" 4cyl started being fitted with 241 sequence engines at the same time as the 88" The diesels and 6 cyl run in their own engine suffix sequence.

    The question we need to ask is whether the A suffix engine configuration is the same in the 251 & 241 sequences?
