Newbie with some possibly stupid questions...

Hi all, just joined up tonight - nice site you have here!

I did a bit of a search on this, though nothing came up, so will ask away here.

I've just gotten myself a series 2 shorty with a holden 202 installed.
It's been sitting for quite some years but still runs (shocked me i tell ya), as this is only going to be a bit of fun i want to put a V8 and auto into it.

I would really like to put in a 304 and turbo 400 auto, is this possible and still be able to clear QLD rego?

Also i would like to swap out the diff to something alot stronger (it will be used in heavy offroad type stuff), what is the most common conversion - thinking maybe hilux?

 Thanks for your time.

G'day and congrats on the joining the "Landy Fold"

I think installing a V8 and bits into a series may be challenging to get registered and swapping diffs etc may get you needing an engineers certificate (others will know better)

You may find this gets slingshot into HOLDEN POWERED SERIES in this same area, its a way of making it easier for people to find info etc..

 Photos would be good...

Have lots of fun with it...theres a lot of holden powered series about!

					Thanks Digger,

It's a BIG step for me as I'm a nissan man through and through! I have had patrols for 8 years now and love my GQ like no other. I also have a Mav (ford badged GQ) that i use in comps and hard offroad.

This shorty has been sitting in the father in laws shed for a bloody long time, it's a shorty with a ute turrent. Dont know much more about it than that, pics will come as soon as she's in my shed so maybe some on here can give me some pointers.

 Cheers

just my thoughts but I reckon, get this one roadworthy with the holden 6 and besides being pretty good on petrol it'll treat you right with speed/pull etc etc..

and something to "pot" about in?
(maybe replace tray with polished wood and brass, polish the bugger within an inch of its life and people will think its a show car!!!?? (well maybe not!))

 Good luck with it

If you go with the T400 you will also have to go with a later model Land Rover tansfer case or even change to a Hilux/cuiser t-case then if you go with matching diffs it may make getting drive shafts easier. And the axle ratios will be better than the stock Land Rover ones.

The 304 will be a tight squeeze especialy for changing spark plugs and it will be required to run the EFI setup and any associated polution gear to pass any inspection, maybe worth looking at an earlier pre polution 308 if this is an issue.

I have no info regarding the requirements about running a V8 in a series vehicle might be worth a call to the RTA or an engineer.

Need some pics if you go head with this conversion

					Welcome to the forum.
No such thing as as stupid question on here (unless it's "How do I post?").

I've seen a IIA with a Chrysler V8 in. Some major structural modifications were made and it did require an engineers report.
From what I understand, it is harder and more expensive to get one now.
Looking forward to your build thread.

If you are a fan of the nissan running gear maybe consider a nissan engine and box to the rover transfer case.
would be a mechanically strong unit that looks good.
You may have to make the adapter your self though, as no one want to know about series conversions any more.

					Thanks everyone for that,
Deff want to stick with injection with this so will be a 304 IF i can get it done legal, plus i know a bit about them.
Another direction might be the 2.7 injected petrol used in the later model Hilux, i know nothing about these engines other than they are very strong and reliable. Again useing the hilux gearbox and transfer behind this motor.
Sorry still no pics as it is boxed in the shed at the moment, will try on the weekend to get the old girl out as i'm really looking foward to some advice from members as to what exactly i have got.
 Cheers
