Thread: Series 2a parts book.

I have a very nice clean Series 2/2A Workshop Manual, Ref Part No 4611, i need the Parts book with part numbers to go with it.... any ideas???

They're all available as reprints by Brooklands. The originals have a cotton bound spine, the reprints are just standard glossy paper spines with an ISBN number on the back cover (originals don't have ISBN numbers).

I have originals of both the workshop and parts manuals, but from different print runs. The workshop manual is the old style "green cover" 4611, printed in December 1963, but the parts book is a white covered version from 1968. They're not for sale, I mention this only because I assume that a 1963 parts book would also have a green cover (my Series I parts book does) so if you are trying to get a matching pair you need to be aware of the change!

Other differences seem to be that the last page of the Brooklands reprint may have a Brooklands page advertising their other LR books, and also the last page of "content" (before advert pages etc.) has the Brooklands copyright underneath the original Land Rover one. The very last page of the originals states the printer to be "Wones Print Group" or "Joseph Wones" and possibly others depending on the age, those references are missing from the Brooklands version.

Most of what is on sale on eBay is Brooklands reprints (obviously if "new", but also some "used" ones), but there are often originals as well. If you specifically want an original, it's best to ask the seller what references are made to printers, ISBN numbers etc. as some sellers don't know (or claim not to know) whether a "used" book is an original or a copy.

Of course if you want to use the book in the workshop, rather than keep it pristine on a shelf, the reprint is just as good and avoids potentially ruining an original! Equally whilst the RAVE CD is a pain in the workshop (spilling oil on your laptop is not good!) it saves shelf space.....
