    Seat Belts.

Ideally I'd like retractable belts. Has anyone tried this?

The only fittings I recognise are these at the bas of the seat box.

    Where are the others?

I have a spares manual photocopy that shows fittings on the galvanised rail that goes under the rear window.

But how is the second attachment at the lower level made.

For retractables, I was thinking of drilling the plate behind above & behind the trailing edge of the door.

    Comments??

    Seat Belts

    Hi Geodon,

I bought some seatbelts from SeatSafe Seatbelts and found them to be quite helpful. They can do lap sash, retractable, etc. They sell various plates (with retaining nuts, etc) and even have various colours for the webbing.

As per your picture - I have one bolt connected down on the floor (this seems to be a standard place). The second fixing is over the drivers right shoulder (a plate was already there on the Grey Ghost), and the third fixing is a plate welded through the top of the seat box (at the thickest part).

The car is still down at the mechanics (getting a road worthy) - but I could take some pictures in the future if it helps.

    Regards,
    The Grey Ghost!

Ghost, (geeze, it feels like I'm ringing 3RRR re The Skull Cave) I'd love some pics as the bottom fixture at the base of the seat box is the only one I have any confidence in.

    Good luck with the RWC!!

The shoulder fitting (on a truck cab) is on a steel frame that is bolted to the top and bottom of the cab rear panel, P/N 395240,395241. The inner bottom fitting is bolted through the 'floor' panel behind the seats, with, on a trayback, which I gather you have, a steel strap to the tub support bracket welded to the chassis, and the reel is attached to a point on the lower back panel of the cab. Where fitted by the factory to late Series 3, the hole for this is reinforced by a spot welded patch.

All the fittings except the factory bits (you already have the bottom outside one) will have to have engineering approval, so you probably should talk to the engineer before doing anything.

There are other arrangements used, and it should be noted that most 2a Landrovers were built before there were any design rules for seat belts! This means that many will have been fitted historically with installations that do not meet subsequent design rules.
