    You must be classed as country, or have it rego'd as a wagon. Mine is just under $1200 for metro ute rego.

    Yes, as far as I know.

    In some states registration is possible for less than twelve months, and I think in all cases you can get a refund if registration is cancelled, but after "handling fees" it won't amount to much.

    Ok - same cost for rich Americans. To get rego in Aust you will need a verifiable address. If you have no particular preference for a rego address I would choose a state or territory that will suit your needs best - for example in the Australian Capital Territory (Canberra) you can get rego in 3 month blocks and there is roadworthy requirements (there is on purchase) so you can travel and renew as necessary irrespective where you are in Aust.

    Other States may or may not have similar arrangements.
