Cool Snowy Mtn Scheme Series 2 with capstan.

Hi, its cold in Canberra today.
    Winter is coming. (GOT)

Recent moving of long term household uncovered some stashed memories. A 1930s Trigonometry text, old maps, old brochures (weatherboard homes in Sydney $2300 on your land, $130 less for fibro). And Snowy Mtn brochures.

The SMS brochures have no printing date but they were stored with a few other caravan tourism bits, all 1960s.

As an indication of printing time, one of these SMS brochures claim the latest pwr station, Murray #1 is on schedule to open in '66 and the other says it is operating.

There are 2 near identical versions of the brochure; each has a different 88in LR photo in the same page with the same headings & text. The 88in Landy Series 2 (same in both photos) has a capstan winch and "S" work site marking. It has "C" number plates.

The early earthworks/roads/etc of the scheme in the '50s were all with LR Series 1.

Theiss had TLCs in the 60's.

But I'd just like to know for sure what is going on here in the '60s with Series 2. I assume the govt supervisors and overseer engineers used the Series 2 and 2A?

Would it be possible for you to send me a scanned copy of those leaflets? I spent two years at Murray#1 and one year at Murray #2 during construction. Murray#1 was officially opened by PM Holt in July 1967. I was there as a "guest".
P.S.Land Rovers were used by whoever needed a 4-wheel drive. The bosses drove HD and HR Holden .Thank you .W.

    Hi W.
Would it be ok to just post them up to you?
No one in our family worked there. You did, so I'd like you to have them.

does anyone have pics of the series (II?) that were used in the snowy scheme that were fitted with massive tyres? Something like 52 inch tall. No they were not "Forestry Rovers"

The vehicles with "S" were Survey branch.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    Here are the 1mb versions:

These scans are from photos roughly the size of a credit card.

Somewhere there must be a collection of SMS photos online? Is there a collection from ex-employees or SMS reunions?

...if you like old Series Landys pix like me, you may recall my early attempts at building a website on line (from 96-99):

Castrol the Ex-Army 1964 Landy. It morphed into something larger, as did the web itself.

Efforts back then included a Series Landy "census" we did around the Hunter Valley-Newcastle region in 96-97. Its so interesting now as so many have passed away.

Incidentally, has anyone heard/read of any re-tracement of the 50th Ann of the WECE which comes up in 3 years? It would be cool.

Love the landy census, you will be pleased to know I still own DDS 537 and NFT 441, both still going strong. Cheers John.
