    2A clutch options

    Afternoon folks

I'm looking into clutches, and it looks like there are 2 options for a 2a gearbox.

I've got a '69 G suffix chassis with an A suffix gearbox. The gearbox suffix seems a little early for the chassis, but its more than possible its had a replacement refurbed gearbox (who knows ) at some point.
I'm sure its a 2a box as the suffix is under the number on the RHS.

What I'd like to know is can I use a 9.5" clutch? Or will this size only fit late model 2a boxes?
I have no idea what clutch I currently have, I just want to sort parts out before I pull everything apart.

    Looking at it I would need a 9.5" 2a/3 pressure plate FRC2297, and 2a clutch cover 571228, with a 2a clutch release bearing STC1130.

Or should I stick with the 9" set up?

however looking at the parts book, my bell housing doesn't have a rubber inspection plug on the LHS, so it's possible I have a A suffix top cover on a later gearbox.
Are there anyways apart from the id numbers to tell the various gearbox versions apart?

    Hey Dunc,

I have a late gearbox in my 2a if you need some comparison photos?

Thanks Sam, as I don't know what I'm looking for it might be a bit of a wild goose chase, but if you could get under the gearbox and take a few pics of the bellhousing and the area where the clutch fork enters the bellhousing that might throw something up.

Although if anyone knows whether the optional 9.5" 2a clutch works with all 2a gearboxes then I wouldn't need the photos?

I'm pretty certain that it does, need both pressure plate (not the same as S3) and driven plate (same as S3).

Thanks John, you confirm what I was starting to think. Esp when I found out that the 109" FCs had the larger clutch fitted from 1963

THis is a good resource for the chassis, engine, gearbox and axle combos and what changed at what date

Don't worry about the pics Sam, I've ordered the parts, but appreciate the offer.

    Cheers
