Apologies, apologies as I know this has been asked before (and I've done a search to see some previous posts on it) - but I'd appreciate a little advice on rims for my Landy.

It's a IIA 88, and I have just removed the tyres from the rims prior to cleaning and painting the rims. There are six in total, and while I had been aware that I had a mix of sizes, I had kind of hoped that most of them were the same.

It appears that I have three 5" SWB rims and three 5.5" LWB rims. I would tend to chase-up three more SWB rims to get things more original - but as I run 7.50x16 tyres, would I be better off going for LWB ones instead? Are there any issues of which anybody is aware if I go for the bigger rims?

 Toodle pip,

 John

					Hi John

You need the 5.50" rims for 7.50 tyres (7.00 is the max recommended on 5" rims).

The geometry on the 88" and 109" is the same and the Au Army ran 7.50 x 16 on its 88". In fact 7.50s and therefore 5.5" rims was an option from Rover Co on all the series II/IIa 88".

Yes there is one issue, its the king pin inclination angle, the Australian (early UK) rims 572309 have a positive offset and therefore the KPI< intersects the ground outside the tyre centreline while "English Rims" 569690 have a more negative offset and the KPI< intersect the ground in the correct midline of the tyre. However every Australian built 109" had this problem from the factory. A solution is to find the rare English rims or fit County 5.5" rims.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting. You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

					Hey Diana,

Thanks a lot for the heads-up. I will go chasing some more 5.5" rims.

 Cheers,

 John
