The center hole, ie the 1 that delivers oil to the center of the filter element is the outlet from the pump. The return is the gallery that the oil press sender is located on, Does that make sense and a clear enough picture? If not I will grab some pics in the morning for you.

    thank you...

i fitted a 200tdi oil filter adaptor to replace the std canister setup on my early 2.25 engine.

    goes really well

makes it so easy to do an oil change

    but

    i have a gotcha

after 20mins driving my oil pressure gauge shows the oil pressure slowly decending to 20lb from the usual 55lb (not an electric gauge it is the real deal)

so i take the new one off and put the canister type back on and it is as it was before, sitting at 55lb

so, it has me in what the problem could be with the 200tdi unit...

    always got to be something

Hmm that seems weird! It would appear as if as the oil warms up it is bypassing somewhere or getting blocked from the sender! Not really knowing a 200TDi its hard to say.
    Some1 may know why.

sounds like you may have a vernatherm in yours, but I think yours is the same as the one I fitted to mine and I have not got a vernatherm in mine, nor have I got an oil pressure gauge!
some things take time to do!!!!

    Might be a problem there

    Hello from Brisbane.

I can't give a solid technical comment on your TDI200 adaptor - mine is the LR part sourced from a 2.5 litre motor in Zimbabwe and I have always been led to believe they are a direct swap over.

However, I have read a few threads from the UK and USA sites that warn of possible problems with either the later adaptor, alternatives like the Rocky Mountain unit or the new filters themselves- basically it seems possible to put them on incorrectly and/or have a filter type with a one way flow valve that ends up seizing the motor.

Here are a few examples, taken at random from a couple of sites:

spin on oil filter adapter warning!!

    Spin-on oil filter

Rocky Mountain spin on oil filter adapter

A couple of them are referring to non-LR adaptors, but the sense of warning is still there.

Not sure if this really clarifies things or just adds to the confusion - but you might want to check with British Off Road or whoever is selling the TDI200 unit off wrecks to fit the 2.25l motors to see if there is a right or wrong way to fit them. Or if the filter or pressure bypass mechanism in the unit is the issue.

    Cheers
