    Engine hand speed control/petrol engine

    Evening all.
Whilst playing around on Peggy I noticed a couple of things (a couple more things) that I am unsure of.
    1) She has an engine hand speed control with a petrol engine. Do I assume that the original engine for this vheichal would have been diesel?
    2) on the front wheels there is a rotation swithch in the centre for 2WD and 4WD, is this normal and what do they do?

    Thanks.

    1) I have never seen a SII/SIIa Land Rover, petrol or diesel, without a hand throttle. The chasis number will reveal what the orignal engine was.

    2) I think you are describing free wheeling hubs. The are not standard. Most likely after market fitment. They have various advantages and disadvantages.

As Aaron says, while the hand speed control was standard on diesels, almost every Series 2/2a I have seen that was Australian assembled has one. I have owned five of them, and the only one without a hand throttle is a home market one.

A bit like bonnet spare wheel mounts - most Australian assembled Series vehicles have them.

    I don't have one, I'd like one.
But I do have a 8:1 compression engine, so maybe thats why Bill misses out.

I do have the wheel on the bonnet
