    hand idle control help

    hi all,

i pieced together the hand idle control unit (at least i think its called that) for my series 2 this morning and when i attached the rod that goes to the cross shaft i couldn't get the nut to thread all the way on like it was before??

i have attached a photo of the nut in question, any ideas as to why it might be playing up now??

if you can get a pic of how yours looks both in side the cab and in the engine bay that would help (I'm bit of a visual person)

    found the problem

all it was was that i was trying to fit a nut on each side of the pin that is attached to the cross shaft.

what this caused was when we pressed the accelerator it was engaging the hand idle control which meant it was trying to push the rod back into the cab

what it should be doing is sliding on the rod.

first pic is how not to attach the rod from the hand idle control to the cross shaft
